Every comic con I attend usually starts with a nice dose of fear and trepidation. I know the moment I step onto the Con floor, I will inevitably come face-to-face with someone wearing the exact same superhero shirt, sweater, jacket, and even shoe as me. The Baader-Meinhof Phenomon is REAL!
Now, some might consider this trivial ( you’re right ) but for pop culture fans like us, the “Con fit” is crucial – even if it’s a mere t-shirt, say like my Punisher shirt by Johnny Blaze that is so ridiculous nobody would actual wear it you say as you run into someone who effortlessly rocks it better than you. These are the CON-flicting situations for us geeks.
To overcome this myself, I’ve tapped into my vanity and begun seeking apparel beyond the usual finds at Target, Walmart, or the mall. While it’s hard to resist the awesome variety of threads available at these places, I want to feel proud of wearing something unique when I hit the convention floor. Let’s face it! We all secretly yearn for those “Nice shirt” or “Sweet shoes” compliments while clutching a half-naked, mysteriously sticky, 90’s rubber Undertaker action figure, dug out of a vendor table’s bargain box marked $5 each because the seller can’t wait to get rid of them. You know exactly what I’m talking about!
I digress. Let’s the burning question at hand: Where can we find such unique threads, fits, and kicks? The answer lies in the new X-Men’s 60th Anniversary Collection between KITH and Marvel.

The X-Men, dubbed “the strangest super-heroes of all!” back in 1963, truly represent the essence of comic books for me. While Batman and Spiderman conjure up thoughts of movies, X-Men immediately brings to mind the actual comic books, particularly the iconic run by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee in the 90’s. That’s why donning Kiths high-end apparel, accessories, celebrating the 60th anniversary of these comic book legends is the perfect way to fish for compliments ( you know its true ) while strolling through the marvelous halls of any given Comic Con.
Now, let’s talk about KITH. This brand was founded by fashion designer Ronnie Fieg in New York, and the connection to Marvel and X-Men should be screaming at you right about now. But the real essence of this collaboration lies in Ronnie Fieg being what Stan Lee would call a “true believer!”
Fieg’s journey began collecting Marvel trading cards as a kid, and now, he finds himself working directly with Marvel—a true full-circle experience! The fact that he’s a genuine true believing fan guarantees that this collection was crafted with the utmost respect and love.
Here’s a great interview of Ronnie Fieg discussing the art of collecting. His vision on making his X-Men shoe collab with ASICS is particular enlightening. Making the shoes as collectible as the trading cards is pure genius. It’s focused and spirited.
Though these items SOLD OUT faster than Wolverine can pop his claws, Kith has produced one of the most interesting pieces for us fans. Some of the pieces that really get my fanboy blood pumping are:
Wolverine 75’ ASICS shoes w/graded character card & nerd-do-well packaging!

Wolverine Yellow Satin Bomber Jacket

Xavier Institute Varsity Crew Neck

X Men Pinch Crown Snapbacks – both Wolverine and X Men Logo version

So, for all my fellow comic con enthusiasts seeking that exclusive and stylish edge may come at a price but if we’re willing to shell out $1,700 bucks on a Sentinel statue we should be fine with this essential X-Men’s 60th Anniversary Collection.
I went ahead and put my info on something KITH called “the list” because this line is exactly what I want as a collector. It fully embodies the core principles of being a nerdy collector of pop culture – one of a kind items that I can’t afford but I’ll buy it because, ” that’s me, dad!?”

PS – If anybody was able to snag any of the items please send in a photo. We love to celebrate you at TGM!
