I just saw the Minecraft movie with my family this week. My daughter, 5, plays the game as best she can. The endless creativity she experiences is the best reason why she enjoys it. The movie was her idea—and boy, did we love it!

The soundtrack was fantastic, perfectly capturing the sense of adventure that defines the game. The acting, especially Jack Black, who is the modern day? Chris Farley, was hilarious and exactly what you’d want in a movie like this. He nails the balance between absurd and serious, delivering laughs for the kids and plenty of winks for the grown-ups.
And speaking of adults, the film has enough clever meta humor and references to keep us entertained without feeling forced. It knows its audience—both the young builders and the parents who’ve watched them stack blocks and tame wolves for hours.
What really stood out, though, was the theme. It wasn’t preachy or heavy-handed. Instead, it gently reminded us about the power of imagination, teamwork, and building something meaningful—even when the world throws exploding Creepers at you.
Overall, the Minecraft movie is a must-watch. It’s a creative ball of fun, a loving tribute to a game that means so much to so many. Whether you’re a Redstone engineer or just learning how to punch rock, there’s something here for you.
Also, it was really cool to sit in a theater jam-packed full of kids and hear them call out each characters name. It reminded me that a lot of adults need to take a step back and sit down and enjoy what’s in front of them rather than blindly criticize it.
