All right folks,  we just got word of a major guest announcement for Fan Expo Chicago 2026, and I literally had to stop what I was doing and read it twice.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Legendary filmmaker John Carpenter is officially coming to Chicago.

For horror fans, this is about as big as it gets.

Carpenter isn’t just another genre director. He’s a foundational architect of modern horror, the man responsible for films that shaped generations of filmmakers and fans alike, including Halloween, The Thing, They Live, and Escape from New York.

He’s a horror icon. A Hall-of-Fame filmmaker. A Hollywood legend.

And if you’re anything like me, seeing him in person has probably been on your convention bucket list for years.

As I get older, I’ve started realizing something that should be obvious but still hits hard: the people we grew up watching, the artists who shaped our imaginations, are getting older too.

Eventually, our heroes pass on.

That’s why opportunities like this matter. Getting the chance to see someone like Carpenter in person, hear him talk about his films, and celebrate the legacy of his work is something horror fans shouldn’t take for granted.
