So, this afternoon I embarked on a casual stroll through the toxic wasteland of Twitter. Surprisingly, amidst the insanity, hate, cruelty, and piles of shit, I stumbled upon a gleaming gem of positivity that instantly transported me back to the era of extreme things aka the 90’s. My eyes fell upon a retweet by the legendary Rob Liefeld, which awakened the nostalgic engine within me. This Retweet contained a feast of a photo that resurrected memories I had not had in years. Today, we comic book fans looked in awe at Hugh Jackman in the classic yellow Wolverine suit.
I honestly can’t believe how long this took but patience gives way to tasty treats. Without a doubt, I would consider seeing a yellow-suited Wolverine in real life a treat of the highest magnitude. Actually, it’s properly one of the greatest magnificent Marvel treats that can’t come at a better time.
Getting Huge Jackman ( a joke ) in the proper suit 15 years after the first MCU movie dropped is a perfect accident. One might argue that placing the raging, grumpy, yellow-suited Wolverine between Phase One and Phase Three of the MCU would have felt out of place. It is safe to assume that pairing him alongside the magic of Doctor Strange or the thunder and awe of Thor might have resulted in diluting the character’s essence and making him the butt-end of lame jokes because that current MCU couldn’t handle his rawness. Classic Wolverine should never conform to the constraints of his cinematic experience; instead, the cinematic experience should adapt to him.
Fortunately, the heavens have aligned, and our dreams will be fulfilled in the upcoming Deadpool 3, which is nestled within the disappointing Phase 4 timeline. Why is this particular venture destined for greatness? Firstly, the pairing of Wolverine with Deadpool will set the precedent for how future iterations of the character should be treated. Secondly, Deadpool 3 holds the potential to reinvigorate the heart of the MCU. Lastly, the anticipated release and appearances of characters like Daredevil, Elektra, Red Hulk, and the Fantastic Four, as indicated by rumors and planned movies, hint at a forthcoming second golden age of the MCU. As a devout comic book nerd, seeing Ben Affleck as Daredevil makes me NSH to the max. But let me refocus on the core of my interest—the yellow-suited Wolverine.

My hippocampus was lit as I drifted back to my childhood. I remember playing one of the X-Men games that came out during the 90s, although the exact title eludes me. This memory, long due for this sort of recollection, holds a special place as it was shared with my older brother. in this unknown video game, I am playing as Wolverine, I keep die frequently because video games have never been m thing, it doesn’t matter to me because the way he faced death intrigued me: one leg raised, bent at the knee. As I die I leap around the room, pointing at the screen, exclaiming, “I want to die just like that!” Then, I would promptly drop to the floor, imitating the pixilated Wolverines’ death. Looking back, I believe my strange fascination stemmed from the character’s fearlessness and unadultered badassery, even in the face of death. Call me weird, but such were the idiosyncrasies of my childhood – Biting bologna to make the Batman logo. anybody?
After watching a series of SNES X-Men videos I have a strong feeling that my memory is related to Mutant Apocalypse. Who knows but PLEASE check out this killer commercial which features a live-action classic Wolverine.

Looking back to the origins, it was the iconic 90s X-Men cartoon that truly enamored me with Wolverine. Every child of that era will likely echo the sentiment – the show was perfect. In that animated series, Wolverine ticked all the rebellious boxes that defined the extreme tropes of the 90s: brooding, never took orders from nobody, had metal claws that ripped from his hands, growled cool catchphrases, killed the hell out of villains with animalistic rage, and ultimately saved the day—all while adorned in a badass yellow and blue suit. What else could a 90’s boy want?
So, this afternoon when I saw the photo of Hugh Jackman dressed in the classic yellow suit I couldn’t help but feel that electric wave of nostalgia running through me like liquid adamantium. I couldn’t help but let my mind fall back to watching the X-Men cartoon and being fixated on the guy with the claws, playing the X-Men video games with my big bro, reading about Wolverine in Wizard magazine, trying to draw Wolverine with markers, pretending to be Wolverine by putting pens and pencils between my fingers, finding out the movie was coming out, buying the X-Men movie novelization at the Scholastic book fair, Dad buying me all the toys but really only playing with Wolverine, playing the Wolverine in X-Men Mutant Academy, Mom and Dad picking me up from summer camp, seeing my adopted brother for the first time playing with my X-Men figures, William handing over the Wolverine figure so that I can join him in the backseat, two new brothers, playing action figures, memories of the old merging with the memories of the new, 30 years of Wolverine and he’s finally here in the yellow suit, the cool suit, in true form unforgiving, it’s going to be one hell of a blood bath, I’m ready, are you ready, bub?

Note: I did not care for the first Deadpool and did not see the second Deadpool.
