Star Wars is the epicenter of Pop Culture.

It transcends the confines of the sci-fi genre, ventures into high fantasy, extends beyond the silver screen, immerses itself in the world of pen and ink, and cozies up to the fires of Christmas before jumping into the hyper-stream, making its presence felt everywhere, all the time. Star Wars is, without a question, the king of POP CULTURE.

With Halloween upon us, I decided to embark on a journey into this crown of pop culture to uncover all (or some) of the delicious Halloween treats it has to offer. So, buckle in, hunker down, find your co-pilot, that’s no moon, hike those pants up a bit, and get ready for HALLOWEEN: A Story Wars Story!

Anybody remember THUMB WARS?!

A great place to hunt Star Wars Halloween would be to find anything written by the great Lord of Star Wars Steve Sansweet. Which is exactly how I found this Halloween article by Sweet Sansweet on starwars.com which led me to the Flickr Star Wars Group that you can spend a couple of hours looking at. These photos really capture the original magic of Halloween and Star Wars!

Star Wars Halloween

Not gonna lie that witch is next level!

Keeping with the photos I wanted to find some photos that I could relate to in detail. That, of course, means finding photos from 1999 – the year Star Wars: Episode 1 dropped.

I found a really cool father and son photo on reddit. Seeing Maul through the vintage lens of a 90’s camera brings back the stink of the rubber mask and the phhump of the double sided lightsaber tubes:

I’m a sucker for Star Wars stuff. It’s an addiction that feeds my other addiction – buying shit I don’t need. I love it. So right as I found the above photo I needed to see if I could find the original crossed eyed rubber mask with creep mouth – of course I did because internet.

$50-60 bones

Let’s keep shopping because I desire more Halloween Star Wars…

Good Lord I have no idea who the hell would wear this. It’s scary as hell. It looks like Obi ripped the face off of Ewan and is wearing it as a sort of joke….they eyes…where are his EYES! AHHHHhhhhh!

Moving past the Obi-Freaky Wan I wanted to sample some Star Wars commercials and videos of sorts. I found a few that I’ve never seen before. Such as this Verizon one which features a walking Death Star and X-Wing fighter, baby Leia, Chewie, and a Jabba!

Pairing well with the above is a mighty fine yet simple McD’s commercial that shows that the house that Ronald built had started to seperate itself from actually being known for their catchy, Jim Henson inspired kid ads:

Fun but too corporate!

If watching ads doesn’t get you feeling the Star Wars Halloween vibes may I offer you a cute little short film series by LEGO? These tasty little morsels can be found on Youtube. Also, Disney+ has an excellent Star Wars Halloween special.

What is that? You desire to READ spooky Star Wars tales during Halloween? Dont’ fret because Star Wars has just the right amount of horror and/or scary books to keep you satisfied! My favorite being Death Troopers. This book was Star War’s very first dive into true horror. It essentially a zombie novel. It is fantastic freakin’tastic.

Check out the official book trailer done by the amazing Richard j. Lee :

If you know me and know what I do for a livin’ or followed me home you know that I love comic books. So what happens when you combine comic books, Star Wars, and Horror? You get Star Wars Horror Comic Books, of course!

I present: The Vader Castle Saga

And that is that for this Halloween: A Star Wars Story breakdown. The point being is that sometimes Halloween is a massively complex and oftenly forced holiday. We are scheduled to take part but sometimes are minds are elsewhere.

I can speak for myself. I have a 4 year old girl who can’t do much ( yet ) when it comes to the season. She loves it but I don’t want to expose her to the ghoulish side of things just yet. She likes her candies, simple creeps, and spooky kiddie vids and that’s enough for her. But Halloween is more than a family affair – it’s a personal journey.

All of us have a unique take on Halloween and that unique take often falls on some alone time watching something spooky that you only like or doing something spooky that you and a friend share. But again, the agent of time is upon us and sometimes you aren’t in the mood.

That’s kind of what happened to me the last couple of years. It’s not to say that I haven’t done Halloween things but I haven’t done my sort of Halloween in awhile. That’s why I decided to find Horror and Halloween in things that I love – like Star Wars. It keeps things fresh!

My final gift to you all is a podcast episode from one of the greatest horror podcasts of all time – It’s Alive! Horror Podcast.

I’m biased since I co-hosted this gem. But I’m not sharing for that. I’m sharing because episode 10 was all about Star Wars and the creepy creatures within the franchise. It was a hoot to record. One of my favorite episodes of all time. with one of my favorite people of all time.

CHECK IT OUT!
